A Celebration of Women’s Chess Excellence
This past weekend, Paradigm Chess30 proudly hosted the Paradigm Queens 2024 tournament, bringing together some of the most talented women in chess for a weekend of thrilling competition and unforgettable moments.
The Tournament Format
The tournament kicked off on November 23rd with two groups of four players each, competing in a 3-round round-robin format.
Group A Competitors:
- WIM Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien
- WIM Khadidja Latreche
- WIM Denise Bouah
- WIM-elect Megan Groenewald
Group B Competitors:
- WIM Jesse February
- WCM Rebecca Selkirk
- WIM Anika du Plessis
- WFM Lauren Willenberg
At the end of the day, the top 4 players progressed to the semi-finals:
Group A: WIM Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien & WIM Khadidja Latreche
Group B: WIM Jesse February & WFM Lauren Willenberg
Semi-Finals - November 24th
The semi-finals brought edge-of-your-seat excitement as the competitors fought for a place in the finals:
WIM Khadidja Latreche defeated WFM Lauren Willenberg with a score of 2.5 - 1.5.
WIM Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien claimed victory over WIM Jesse February, winning 2 - 0.
The Finals
The finals featured two intense matches to determine the ultimate rankings:
In the 3rd/4th place match, WFM Lauren Willenberg overcame WIM Jesse February 2 - 0 to secure 3rd place.
The 1st/2nd place match between WIM Khadidja Latreche and WIM Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien went down to the wire. After tying the first two games and the tiebreak games, the golden game decided it all, crowning WIM Khadidja Latreche as the champion.
